Chinese (Mandarin)
English
French
German
Hindi

Russian
Spanish The text translator is available in more than 50 languages for instant messaging. Skype Translator uses machine learning. So the more you use it, the better it gets.

Any special tips?

Call captioning is available on the new Skype and on Skype for Windows 10. To make a translated audio or video call, click on the audio or video call icon in your conversation. Your voice will be translated and the translation will also be shown as a caption in your call window. Your translated chat will continue to be available in your recent chats with that person. If you want to start a translated chat with someone else, you'll need to start translator with them in the same way.

Any important advice?

A translated chat will only support you and a single contact. If you try to add another participant or bot to your translated chat, you will get a message that the translations will no longer work until the added participant is removed. Once they are removed, you will see your translations continue as normal.

Tips for an effective conversation

  • Use your headphones and speak clearly for the best experience.
  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of Skype.
  • If the person you’re calling isn’t already in your contact list, add them now, and check that they’re online and available. Are you calling a landline or mobile number? If so, you’ll need enough Skype Credit or a subscription to call.
  • Get comfortable. Choose a quiet, comfortable spot in a well-lit room. For best video quality, use a light-colored background and make sure you don’t have bright lights right behind you. For best audio quality, limit background noise so that your voice can be clearly heard.
